This weekend, our CoD4 team attended next edition of Multiplay I-series, i38. It returned back to the Newbury for the first time since March 2008. And this was the LAN for our team to prove themselves where they did with winning unofficial CoD4 tournament. Unfortunately, it was not how it was supposed to be.
Two big things happened at this LAN. One good, and another not so good.
Let`s start with good news. Our team participated in unofficial CoD4 tournament organized by Team Element. 13 teams entered this tournament, including teams such as oXmoze, Team Infused and Team Dignitas. Our team ran over Element and i.Qpad, while struggling against oXmoze in UB final. It all came down to Epsilon v. Team Infused in grand final on mp_strike where our team comfortably won 13-3 taking the title home with £325.
Well done guys!
But how did everything come to this? The whole mess started 7 days before start of the LAN. It was still unsure whether Multiplay would go with CoD4 or CoD.MW2 as their prize tournament. It was kind of unbelievable that they would choose CoD.MW2 because release date was only 3 days before the LAN and as it happens with every new game, it`s still buggy, not competition playable and rather unknown to all players. But Multiplay with Activision still gave it a shot. Unfortunately, that`s not it. It was brought to us that game is rated 18+ and 3 of our players are still underage. As we didn`t want to fake anything, we kindly asked them what`s happening with this, and their answer was: "Regarding the MW2 stuff, we`re currently working on a way for Activision to let us allow under 18s in the tournament, but it looks likely it will be ok for u18s with parental consent forms."
It was rumored that Activision put a lot of money in this tournament, that prize pot would be £5000 for PC and XBOX platform. At the end it turned out that u18 are not allowed to play and prize pot (which was announced 2nd day of the tournament) is £1000. So our team already had plane and LAN tickets with no possibillity of refund and went there. But, they were not the only team ending up like that. Several other teams were also disqualified from the tournament due to age rule.
Let`s not make this article all negative, but please join me in congratulating our CoD4 team their LAN title with no loses.
