Moh-Aw's Statistical Toplist #4
Tuesday, 02 December 2008

Written by Vedran Blagus,

It's that time of month again, where Moh-Aw embarrasses us all with his high calibre braincells, shooting another algorithm in our direction. He lets rip spurting out numbers faster than it takes the average person to find a calculator from their school bag. Waving goodbye to the inactives and welcoming new teams into the highly distinguished Top 10.

How the toplist works?
The whole toplist is based on the mathematical system of Arpad Elo. I don’t want to explain the whole algorithm, so I’ll just give you some notes on how the points are calculated:
  • Basically a team’s points are calculated by judging who they played against and what the final score was.
  • You get more points for beating a higher ranked team than for beating a lower ranked team.
  • The clearer you win the more points you get.
And vice versa:
  • You lose less points if you lose against a higher ranked team than losing against a lower ranked team.
  • The clearer the loss the more points a team loses.

#1 Epsilon eSports

Epsilon had nine matches this month and won all but one. The most important match, the TWL Invite League final, was lost against Team Aenigma on River Basin and SF Village. Apart from that Epsilon is still the strongest team to face in Europe. The loss of the Invite League final was compensated with the win of the ESL Autumn Cup.

Not many teams have the endurance to stay on the top for such a long time. Can they stay #1 until AAO 3.0 is released?

#2 EnVision

Wave goodbye to EnVision. Several members decided to leave the team and form a new one. The remaining players pronounced Envision’s death shortly after. This will be the last toplist with this team in it. Time will tell if Defining Stars can supersede them.

#3 Utopia

Utopia made a step forward by winning the TWL Intermediate league against the surprisingly strong team of Portuguese Warriors. The SGL Super Cup didn’t really go well for them. They were able to beat the strong Team Aenigma but lost against Paras A-ryhmä on Weapons Cache SE. Nevertheless they qualify for the playoffs because of a better RW/RL difference. The playoff match against Epsilon was a forfeit loss though as Utopia could not field four players.

It will be tough for Utopia to defend the third place as other teams are pushing up hard.

#4 Team Aenigma

Well, look who’s there. Aenigma has been rushing up the list since they were founded and are performing well lately. A win against Epsilon in the TWL Invite League finals came surprising for some. If they can hold this level or even improve a little bit they might pose a major threat to Epsilon’s domination.

Their latest performances indicate that they want to make it a bit more exciting though. They lost against Utopia in the SGL Cup group stage but were able to qualify for the playoffs by winning the next two matches. In the playoffs they had to face Debil Gaming on Insurgent Camp and Collapsed Tunnel. It became an epic battle in which Aenigma lost narrowly 26 – 28.

#5 Velocity

With their latest performances in the SGL and ESL cups Velocity finally arrived in the top 5. They had to take the strenuous way through the loser-bracket just to meet their match in the ESL Autumn Cup finals. Epsilon put an end to Velocity’s streak by winning 7-3 on Weapons Cache SE.

Velocity made it to the quarter finals in the SGL Cup by eliminating Urban Legends, Tempus Moriendi and the Finnish Battle Lions. Now they will have to face Defining Stars. This should be an indicatory and directive match for both teams.
